V-Day
So last week, i managed to watch the oh-so-famous play "Vagina Monologues". Me and my friend SP were just plain lucky to get in to see the play. We had no passes and entry was stopped, then all of a sudden, a back door was opened for some high society affluent enthusiasts to let them in(so common in India) and we scraped our way through into the auditorium balcony.
Now comes the play. First of all , it had 4 beautiful ladies in it(did someone say "boys will be boys" out there :) ). this play was all about highlighting the sexual violence done on women all over the world. It was very much energetic and a fast paced play with "A big" comical touch to it. But thats where the play lost its sheen. It tried too hard to appeal to the masses by giving them too much light hearted moments thus diverting from the topic and diluting the message behind the play. It could have been a bit mor eserious to convey its morale.
Otherwise it was a really good play with all the 4 actresses complementing their good looks with great acting skills.
This play was banned in Madras and these 4 ladies came out yelling - "Chennai doesnt have any vaginas, it has just ASSHOLES" (as told during the play) and this play has been enacted by many knwon faces like Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet and our very own Mallika Sherawat(i never knew she had such a good hold of verbal english).
