hmmmm...(i hate this word...i dont know what it means- yes, no or maybe???)

child marriage advt...WOW

as eva, mango were not at home on this sunday, thus i had all the world's time to enjoy "Do Beegha Zameen", a classic movie, on our very own DD National Network(i still dont remember when was the last time, i watched that channel, it seems stone age to me). there's no doubt abt the movie..it was simply gr8 and once again sleeping director in me woke up. but this is not what i am here to talk about.i will talk about an advertisement. This advt which was being regularly beemed during the movie somewhat went like this---a father comes to his house with his 10r old son, while his 10-11yr old daughter is playing in the courtyard and her granny is sitting nearby. the father just explode into happiness and declare that his daughter is going to get married in a few months' time. so, here comes the reply from old, wise granny- "this marriage shud not take place as it will lead to her(daughter's) pregnancy at a very young age; thus, her and new born child's life will be in danger. so, this marriage should not take place."my eyes jsut popped out in bewilderment and surprise over this reason. isn't there any other more plausible reason to say no to child marriage than young-age pregnancy. (as usual, i wont comment any further)

welcome season of patriotism...

so our independence day is nearby now..one more holiday , and people are already busy in applying for taking leave on 14th aug, monday, to make it an extended w-end.And our seasonal patriotism is back..though a little bit slowed by nasal hits of himesh. kite selling shops and some over-enthusistic patriotic people have already started playing patriotic songs, thus paying debt to freedom fighters in their own unique ways...wat else those freedom fighters would have wanted from us after so many years.i think india would be the only country where patriotism is celebrated just like any other seasonal festival.(i would like aditi and stef to add some observations of their own from their personal experience and exposure.)

take my advice...even i dont use it anyway!!!

during my illness, when i was just lying on my bed...and feeling like a mortal, defeated by some small viruses; i pondered over utility of our lives. yes, this sort of ideas do creep up in your mind once you are on bed and got nothing extraordinary to do other than just gazing at the ceiling. so i came upon two conclusions in those periods of ponderances to make our life worthwhile...1. you just can't die without any name for you in the world, you have to carve your own place in this world, otherwise there is no difference in you and other people. you gotta rise above all. 2.its not your life, your life is governed less by you and more by people around you; so u have to live for them , not for urself. its better to die for others than living for urself. help others. two songs that epitomizes these conclusion are(and co-incidentally they are among my fav songs too)

"kisi ki muskurahaton pe ho nisaar, kisi ka dard mil sake to le udhaar;
kisi ke waaste ho tere dil main pyaar, jeena isi ka naam hai"

"apni kahani chhod jaa, kuchh to nishaani chhod jaa;
kaun kahe is ore , fir tu aaye na aaye"

and one shud visit hospital once a month to understand that each power of ours is degenerative with time. So, dont be proud of just possessing it, but be proud of using it meaningfully.
(sorry , my illness was too long, thus pondered a lot, hence got a bit more philosophical...please adjust with me ;)

    Hey hey, i see that you really had time to ponder about all this, yaar!! :) But you know what, as a doctor to be, i prescribe you never to fall ill, because many strange thoughts seem to enter your mind, and disturb the little sanity which is still there! :p
    Take care, yaar, see you soon!!!

    And i find it great that, even though based on twisted reasoning, there finally are some ads to disrecommend child marriage- after all, since it is/was in people's traditions/mentality to go for child marriages, you can't really call for their logic (hum hum, indian logic? woa! lol), or their moral values to end it, so rather appeal to what touches all of us, and thas is health problems! One does what one can, after all...

  3. I agree with fireangel. I think the ad is aimed at finally discouraging child marriage with whateaver appeals to them. THink abt it, the villages will only think of this as a possible logic for why if at all right.
    Apart from that, I disagree, about the leaving a mark on the world. Everyone leaves a mark, it may not be grandiose enough to enter history books but its a mark. When you raise capable and responsible children, it is your mark, your contribution to society. While you may not be remembered as textbook material, atleast those lives you touched will remember you.
    I think i try to live with the theory of doing unto others as I want done with me.

    be with me and i'll let u enter the history books with me...so coming or not?
    btw i agree with u, but we shud try hard enuff to earn our distinct place in this cruel world.
    and one can think of many plausible and logical reasons against child marriage like its a punishable act , teach ur daughter for better future, etc
