Traffic Woes...

I am again rendered useless at office for last couple of days. My role in current project (Raipur) is over and I have to now move onto Trichy project for which I am scheduled to visit Trichy in the 4th week of October. I would be on site for 10-15days and will try to come back before Diwali. Let’s see how it all goes.

My traffic aversions

I am thrown into car driving since May, 07. I was squarely forced by circumstances and family to learn car driving. And when I was learning, I used to think that my whole brain is in my either foot. I found it to be too confusing but after 6months, I am neutral towards it : don’t like it, don’t hate it. But yeah it’s too taxing on your body if your car is not air conditioned and when you are driving in a jam packed city like Delhi. In Delhi, don’t ever expect to have a no-traffic jam day , the best you can expect is to minimize the number of traffic jams you can land yourself into. So, I think, instead of a GPS device to guide you through the city, we all need a GPS device which can tell you which alternate route to take to minimize jams.

The worst part of car driving in Delhi is the omnipresence of three-wheelers (yeah, I know OED has almost killed “hyphen” but I like it that way only.) in the middle of the road. These autowallahs can be found with their autos in the fast lanes of the road trying to zoom past your car at their quantified speed of 32.5kmph. They won’t listen to your horn, least willing to give side to your vehicle. Till date, I don’t know how most of the autowallahs are able to drive their mean machines sitting prettily one leg crossed.

After 3 challans: 2 for red light jump and 1 for over speeding, I have almost soaked up the initial euphoria and excitement of the driving. These days I am a man-on-a-mission, driving my car with “drive with smile” slogan. And believe me, it’s a very effective way to ease up all your on-road worries. I have learnt that whether you frown or smile, nobody cares much unless you end up smashing into a car.

Hehehehehe, I somehpow can't imagine you behind the wheel, facing the chaos of indian streets!!! (laugh) Well, you know what? I'm also finally getting started, first move towards getting my driving license. I'll eventually get there, though somehow i have the feeling that it's harder in Switzerland than in India! ;)
