Childhood's stumped dreams...
I rejoined my job showing faithfulness to them for supporting me through my cat exam by giving me 1month leave for preparation which now seem like to be wasted judiciously by me as my so-called most ‘strong’ area –‘’English’’ has failed me again. Let’s see what happens now.
Leave this present…its getting murkier day by day. In these times of lost hopes and despair, I would love to reminiscent one of my childhood monkey business….
Childhood…the golden days, age of innocence. This incident is related to cricket…the lifeline game of India. I have been a very good cricketer till date. A pretty decent right handed batsman and a very good left arm pace bowler…that’s how I am defined in cricketing terms. So, once this good lefty bowler decided to be of more use to the team by trying to be a good batsman…its not that I had bad techniques, it was just that I was always in a hurry to bat. Testimony to this is my 40 odd ball types century in a 5day match…yeah we used to play 5day-40overs per day matches too…but mostly during our summer vacation , when we had nothing to worry and all the world’s time to us only. But those 5dayers never lasted more than 2days. Now, here we can claim that Aussies took inspiration from us in marauding opposition and finishing test matches early. lol.
Aaahhh...so where was I …yeah my effort to be a good bat. It was some small neighborhood tournament in which I was playing in my bro’s team. We had reached semifinals and needed 20odd runs in decent no. of overs. With no staggering required run-rate to bother us. The only worrying point was that we had only 2-3 wickets in hand...or u can say that to win the match, tail of our team needed to wag ...that too vigorously and efficiently. I was my team’s best bet at that position. I was doing well as a batsman, but suddenly the desire to become a great batsman just came up within me. A spinner was bowling against me. He pitched the ball on off stump, I derived enough courage to play my pre-meditated shot and tried to reverse sweep that ball. Completely missed the ball and my off stump was floored. I never had tried my hands on reverse sweep…I can even bet that no-one had ever played that shot in our neighborhood. We lost the match. All the blame was put on me. And I put the blame on Jonty Rhodes...because it was he, who was my inspiration behind that shot. After that I have never played that shot in a match...but that still remains one of my favorite shot. And my dream of becoming a good batsman evaporated but at a very high cost. But no regrets.
